How to find your iCal link

iCal links (also called .ics links) let SYNCDATE read your calendar. Here's where to find one for each provider.

The link you need usually ends in .ics or starts with webcal://. It's different from the URL you see in your browser when you open your calendar app — that URL shows you the calendar as a webpage, not the raw data file. SYNCDATE needs the data file URL.

Google Calendar
Use the "Secret address in iCal format" — not the embed URL or the browser URL.
  1. Open calendar.google.com.
  2. In the left sidebar, find the calendar you want to share. Click the three-dot menu next to it.
  3. Choose Settings and sharing.
  4. Scroll down to the Integrate calendar section.
  5. Copy the Secret address in iCal format. It ends in /basic.ics.
  6. Paste that URL into SYNCDATE.

Common mistake: The Embed code section shows a URL that looks like calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=…. That URL shows your calendar as a webpage — it won't work here. You need the Secret address in iCal format from the same section.
Microsoft Outlook
Prefer connecting Outlook with OAuth for two-way sync. If you need iCal, publish the calendar first.

If you need the iCal read-only link (for example, to share a work calendar without OAuth):

  1. Open Outlook Calendar (or Outlook.com).
  2. Click the gear icon (Settings) in the top-right.
  3. Go to Calendar → Shared calendars.
  4. Under Publish a calendar, pick the calendar and choose Can view all details.
  5. Click Publish. Copy the ICS link.
  6. Paste that URL into SYNCDATE.

Apple iCloud Calendar
iCloud calendars can be shared via a public webcal:// link from the iCloud website.
  1. Go to icloud.com/calendar and sign in.
  2. Click the share icon (circle with a person) next to the calendar you want to share.
  3. Turn on Public Calendar.
  4. Click Copy Link. The URL starts with webcal://.
  5. Paste that URL into SYNCDATE (webcal:// links work just like https://).

Note: This only works from icloud.com, not the iOS Calendar app. The iOS app doesn't show this option. For two-way sync with iCloud, use the CalDAV connect option in SYNCDATE.
