Connecting a second or third account

How to add another Google, Microsoft or iCloud login, what happens when one is already connected, and what disconnecting does to your copies.

Go to Accounts in the dashboard and connect the next one, or use Connect another account… directly inside the sync composer while you're picking calendars. You'll sign in to that provider and come back.

How many you can connect depends on your plan: 2 on Free, 5 on Plus, 20 on Pro.

Connecting a second account with the same provider

This works. Two Google accounts, or a personal Microsoft account alongside a work one, is the normal setup. Two things to know before you start.

Sign out of the first account first, or use a private window. Google and Microsoft will otherwise hand you straight back to the account you're already signed in to, and you'll end up looking at the same calendars you already had, wondering why nothing new appeared.

Second Microsoft accounts fail more often than second Google ones, and it's almost always the account's own organisation blocking it rather than anything on our end. See below.

When the sign-in fails

"Need admin approval", or an AADSTS error code. Your Microsoft work account belongs to an organisation that blocks third-party apps by default. You can't approve this yourself. Send your IT admin the workspace admin page. It lists exactly what SYNCDATE requests and the steps to approve it, and it's written for them rather than for you.

It connects, then stops working within minutes. Same cause, different shape: the sign-in succeeded but an admin policy revoked it right afterwards. If a connection dies a few minutes after you made it and you're on a work account, that's an org policy, not a bug. Same fix.

"Account already connected". That calendar account is already linked to a different SYNCDATE login. An account can only belong to one at a time, so disconnect it there first. If it's not a login you recognise, email vlad@syncdate.app.

Once it's connected

The new account's calendars show up in the composer as their own group. Add the ones you want to an existing sync, or build a new sync.

Adding a third calendar to a mirror is where most people get surprised. Mirroring three calendars means all three receive copies of the other two, so an event on one becomes two copies. That's usually not what people want when they add a third. Feeding several calendars into one (Push, with several sources and one target) is the setup that matches "I want to see everything in one place".

Known limitations

  • You can't move an account between SYNCDATE logins. Disconnect it from the first, then connect it to the second.
  • Disconnecting asks what to do with the copies already synced elsewhere — delete them or leave them in place. It also tells you which of your syncs survive without that account and which get deleted outright.
  • Free allows 2 accounts but only 1 sync. Two accounts and one sync covers the common personal-plus-work pair, and nothing beyond it.
