You want one place that shows everything — but your work calendar must never show what your personal events are.

How it works

It is built in two passes, because the two directions carry different amounts of detail and the order matters. The first pass sets Busy both ways: if you stop there the sync is finished and safe, just less useful than it could be. The second pass opens up one side only, in the sync's per-calendar settings. Doing it that way round means there is no moment, however brief, where your work calendar is showing more than you meant it to.

1. 1Pick your work calendar and your personal calendar. Both send and receive.
2. 2Leave the shared title option on Title says "Busy". This is what your work calendar will show.
3. 3Open "Calendar exceptions" and switch your personal calendar to "Use original title" with its description and location. This step needs the Pro plan.

Variations

Two filters you can add to this sync at any point, without rebuilding it.

• Sync everything except all-day events

  Add an "All-day events" exclude rule and holidays, birthdays and travel banners stay out of the calendar you sync into. It also catches birthdays from a subscribed calendar, which "Special dates from contacts" cannot — those arrive as ordinary events, so only the all-day rule sees them.

• Only invitations you've accepted

  Set "Which events to sync (RSVP)" to "Only-yes" and meeting requests you haven't answered stay out of the calendar you sync into until you accept them.
