Family calendar → your own

Everything on the shared family calendar shows up on the calendar you actually check, in full.

Free plan.

When this is for you

The family calendar exists, but you never open it, so you miss things.

Before you turn it on

  • One direction only: adding an event to your own calendar does not put it on the family calendar.
  • If you need it both ways, use a two-way recipe instead — but then everything you add is visible to the family.

How it works

The shared calendar can be one you own or one somebody shared with you; either way this recipe only reads from it, so read-only access is enough. When a family member moves something, your copy moves with it, and when they delete it your copy goes. Anything you add to your own calendar stays there, so you can keep using it for work and everything else without a single item of it reaching the family.

What you'll pick

The shared family calendar

The one everyone adds to. Nothing is written back to it.

1 calendar · Read only

The calendar you actually check

Family events land here.

1 calendar · Copies land here

Setting it up

  1. Pick the shared family calendar as the source. Nothing is written back to it.
  2. Pick the calendar you actually check.
  3. Choose "Use original title", so an event still says what it is.

Variations

Two filters you can add to this sync at any point, without rebuilding it.

  • Sync everything except all-day events

Add an "All-day events" exclude rule and holidays, birthdays and travel banners stay out of the calendar you sync into. It also catches birthdays from a subscribed calendar, which "Special dates from contacts" cannot — those arrive as ordinary events, so only the all-day rule sees them.

  • Only invitations you've accepted

Set "Which events to sync (RSVP)" to "Only-yes" and meeting requests you haven't answered stay out of the calendar you sync into until you accept them.

Set this up

The sync builder opens with this recipe's direction and settings already filled in. You pick the calendars.
